PTO News - March 2020

Message from our president, Shannon Bahr

It’s March Robison Families!  Wishing each of you a safe, fun and hopefully relaxing Spring Break!

Fun times ahead when we return from break. ROCKETFEST is fast approaching. Please mark your calendars for Friday, April 3rd from 5 – 8 PM. Kiddos are currently underway with donation competitions in each classroom. Initial donation deadline of March 6th has been extended leaving time to shop over Spring Break. New donation deadline is Friday, March 20th. Please see information below if you need a reminder of what each grade level donation needs are. We thank you sincerely for your consideration!

Calling all Robison Rocket Families! The Robison Elementary PTO will be hosting the annual Rocketfest on Friday, April 3. Save the date for this exciting Family Fun Fair and Silent Auction.
What is Rocketfest?

It’s our big springtime fundraising event.  The entire family will be able to enjoy a carnival style fair with a host of games, DJ, food, and inflatables.  Did I mention we’ll have a 126 foot inflatable, photobooth, and train this year?  We also host an online silent auction.  This year’s items already include a birthday package, photography package, golf package, and a Houston Family Zoo membership to bid on.

How do I support the event?
Another great question!  There is silent auction and we are asking for items to be donated for the Silent Auction based on a theme for each grade level. Items may be brought directly to your child’s homeroom.  This year’s themes are really exciting.

Do you own a business?  You can also support the event through business sponsorship.  For more information contact rocketfestauction@gmail.com

                 Clean out the closet
We would like your new / gently used and discarded plush animal(s) to be donated to our Rocketfest Adopt a Plush Toy Rescue.  Please send to school with your child for collection in their homeroom.

We look forward to having a BLAST at Rocketfest.

Thank you from the Robison PTO!

Rocketfest Family Fun Fair News

Adopt a Rescue

Stop! Wait!  Before you cast last year’s plush toy to the wayside, give it some new life.  While you start cleaning and clearing space for the holidays, please take a peak in those closets for some discarded and gently used plush toys (teddy bears, plush dogs / cats, etc.) and donate to our Rocketfest Adopt a Rescue.   We will be accepting new / gently used plush toys from now through March 6 to be re-adopted at our Family Fun Fair.  Please be reasonable in size.

Calling all Supers

Do you ever feel like you have super hero powers?  We have a ‘super’ theme for our upcoming and exciting Spring Family Fall Festival.  We need your ‘super’ powers and talented crafty skills to create Super Hero decorations with either a ‘Cricut crafting machine’ or ‘hand drawn’ or the like to decorate our halls and Boardwalk game posters.  Get creative and start crafting some supers such as The Incredibles, Hulk, Superman, Captain Marvel, Pokémon (they can be heroes too), or even some villains, etc.  Please send these creations to school with your child from now through March 6.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT

Junior Achievement is coming up very soon and we would love to have you join us. This volunteer opportunity is EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE as far as when you can volunteer, you just work with the teacher to find what fits your schedule.

Junior Achievement is an economic education program based on our social studies curriculum. This great program provides organizational, personal and student benefits as well as success skills, job skills, credit skills and life skills in general. The kids absolutely LOVE Junior Achievement and it’s fair to say our volunteers LOVE teaching it!
Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas https://southeasttexas.ja.org

Volunteers will go into the classroom and teach JA courses according to each grade level. A teacher will be in the classroom during each presentation and will assist the volunteer.  All volunteers will work closely with the teacher to determine which days you will be presenting.  A commitment of 30 minutes’ lessons for 5 lessons is needed. The days and times are typically very flexible.

Junior Achievement will be offered in the Spring semester, shortly following our return from Spring Break.

Some good news .... volunteers are only required to attend a one-time training session. Once trained you will not need to be retrained to continue teaching JA.

Please keep in mind Junior Achievement generates terrific volunteer interest. It is a first come first serve volunteer opportunity. Generally, one volunteer will teach for a home room class, there has been occasion however when volunteers share duties (we can discuss as needed). With that said please reach out to us with your interest. Please indicate which home room (HR) you’d like to volunteer for and if you’ve been trained or when you will be trained.

We thank you in advance for considering this opportunity!
